Paying for Namecheap: what to know
- Card top-ups range from $5 to $100,000. Adding enough for several renewals at once means you don't need to keep money sitting on the card.
- The currency selector in the header only changes how prices are displayed; keeping it on USD avoids confusion, since the card is in dollars too.
- The sale price for .com only covers the first year and renewal costs noticeably more, so budget for the renewal price.
- Account funds can't be moved to another Namecheap account or used to prefund someone else's — top up the account that holds your domains.
- Some TLDs (such as .fr, .es and .sg) need auto-renew switched on at least 12 days before expiry, or the domain goes straight into redemption.
If the payment fails
- Check the balance of the card itself, not the main balance in the bot: the charge goes to the card.
- Re-enter the number, expiry date and CVC: a typo is a common reason for a decline.
- Don't retry many times in a row: payment systems may temporarily decline frequent attempts. Wait and try again.
- Still not working? Message support at @VirtCardPaySupportbot and we'll sort it out.
FAQ
Can I top up my Namecheap balance first and buy the domain later?
Yes. A card Top-up adds funds from $5, which you can then spend on domains, hosting and SSL. It also works well for auto-renewal, since Namecheap will charge the balance.
How much is a .com on Namecheap?
On namecheap.com/domains at the time of checking, a .com was $11.28 for the first year on sale and $18.48 per year to renew. Prices change often; the cart shows the final amount.
Which cards does Namecheap accept?
The help center lists Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, Diners Club, JCB and UnionPay, plus PayPal. Crypto is accepted only as an account top-up.
Should I pay by card each time or use the balance?
If you have several domains renewing on different dates, keeping funds on your Namecheap balance is simpler. For a single domain, paying by card at checkout is fine.
How much do I need to put on the card?
At issue, from $30 / €30 goes straight onto the card. After that, top up from $30 / €30; the top-up fee is 4%. Keep the charge amount on the card plus a small margin.
Is it safe?
Only you see the card details — in the bot and your dashboard. 3-D Secure codes arrive in Telegram, and you can freeze the card in one tap.
