Paying for Hetzner: what to know
- At signup Hetzner may ask you to verify the account with an ID or a prepayment from your own card. The prepayment becomes credit for future invoices, so load more than your first order.
- You pick the account currency (EUR or USD) once at signup and can't change it. With a Visa USD card, dollars avoid conversion losses.
- Hetzner is postpaid: it issues an invoice first and charges the card a few days later, so keep funds on the card after ordering.
- If a charge fails you'll get an email, and you can retry up to five times. Top up the card in the bot and hit Pay now in Hetzner Accounts.
- Topping up credit doesn't generate an invoice; you only get one once services are billed.
If the payment fails
- Check the balance of the card itself, not the main balance in the bot: the charge goes to the card.
- Re-enter the number, expiry date and CVC: a typo is a common reason for a decline.
- Don't retry many times in a row: payment systems may temporarily decline frequent attempts. Wait and try again.
