Paying for eBay: what to know
- At checkout eBay may let you choose the payment currency, such as the seller's or yours. If you don't pay in the listing currency, eBay shows its exchange rate and total; compare it with paying in euros.
- Ordering from several sellers at once can show duplicate pending charges. These are authorizations, not double charges, and usually clear within a week, though some banks take up to 30 days.
- Keep enough on the card for everything in the cart: until the authorizations clear, that money is blocked.
- Save the card by ticking Remember this card for future orders at checkout, or add it in advance under My eBay → Payments → Add payment option.
- Your order confirmation email shows the currency you paid in, which helps if the statement amount differs because of the exchange rate.
If the payment fails
- Check the balance of the card itself, not the main balance in the bot: the charge goes to the card.
- Re-enter the number, expiry date and CVC: a typo is a common reason for a decline.
- Don't retry many times in a row: payment systems may temporarily decline frequent attempts. Wait and try again.
