Paying for PlayStation Store / PS Plus: what to know
- Sony says a card registered to an address in another country may not link to an account from a different region. Check your account's region first: it sets both the prices and the currency.
- Enter your name and address exactly as your card issuer has them, without special characters. Sony recommends avoiding asterisks, hyphens, apostrophes and slashes.
- Don't keep retrying: after repeated failed attempts PlayStation blocks payment-detail changes for 24 hours, and each new attempt restarts the timer.
- PS Plus comes in 1-, 3- and 12-month terms. The annual option is much cheaper per month, but you need the full amount on the card at once.
- You can save up to three cards. A linked card makes it easy to top up your PlayStation wallet and pay for games from the balance.
If the payment fails
- Check the balance of the card itself, not the main balance in the bot: the charge goes to the card.
- Re-enter the number, expiry date and CVC: a typo is a common reason for a decline.
- Don't retry many times in a row: payment systems may temporarily decline frequent attempts. Wait and try again.
- Still not working? Message support at @VirtCardPaySupportbot and we'll sort it out.
FAQ
How much is PS Plus?
On the US PlayStation Store, Essential is $10.99 a month, Extra is $16.99 and Premium is $19.99, with 3- and 12-month options too. Other regions have their own prices in local currency.
Why won't my card link to PSN?
Sony lists a few common reasons: the card's region doesn't match the account's, the details don't match your issuer's records, or online payments are disabled on the card. There's also a 24-hour lock after too many attempts.
Can I top up my wallet first and buy later?
Yes. Adult accounts have a PlayStation wallet you can top up from a linked card, and purchases are then paid from the wallet balance.
How much do I need to put on the card?
At issue, from $30 / €30 goes straight onto the card. After that, top up from $30 / €30; the top-up fee is 4%. Keep the charge amount on the card plus a small margin.
Is it safe?
Only you see the card details — in the bot and your dashboard. 3-D Secure codes arrive in Telegram, and you can freeze the card in one tap.
