Card payments usually take seconds. But sometimes something goes wrong: the amount is debited but the order is not confirmed. Or the screen freezes on the waiting page. What to do in each case.

Scenario 1: Debited but merchant didn't receive

This is the most common scenario. The amount left your card, but the merchant doesn't show the payment. What happens technically: the merchant's acquirer managed to request authorization (the issuing bank froze the amount), but something failed before confirmation. The amount is on hold — not finally debited.

What to do:

  • Wait 10-30 minutes — often during this time both banks agree, and either the payment completes or the hold is released.
  • If nothing changes after an hour — do not repeat the payment. Contact the merchant's support and describe the situation.
  • If the merchant confirms they have nothing — the hold will be automatically released within 7-14 days (standard timeframe for VISA/MC). You can wait or ask the merchant/bank to release the amount faster.

Scenario 2: Stuck on the 3DS page

You were asked for a 3D Secure code, but it didn't arrive, or it arrived but the form doesn't respond. Do not click pay again — this will create a duplicate request.

What to do:

  • Wait a minute, check if the code arrived later. Sometimes there is a delay in Telegram bot or SMS.
  • Close the page after 5 minutes of waiting. If a debit occurred, it will be canceled within a few hours (3DS without confirmation = unsuccessful payment).
  • Repeat the payment on a new checkout page of the merchant.

Scenario 3: Duplicate debit

You paid for one order, but the statement shows two identical amounts. This could be either a real double debit or one of the transactions is a hold that will be released automatically.

What to do:

  • Wait 24-48 hours — often the duplicate is automatically released.
  • Contact the merchant — they can see their side and initiate a refund if they indeed charged twice.
  • If the merchant doesn't help — file a chargeback with your bank/card issuer. Provide screenshots of correspondence, receipt from the merchant, and card statement.

Scenario 4: Payment went through, order not received

This is no longer a payment system issue, but a merchant issue. From the payment side, everything is fine. It is resolved through communication with the seller, and if impossible, through chargeback. A virtual card allows you to block the card to prevent further subscription charges if the situation is contentious.

What NOT to do

Do not repeat the payment multiple times. Each click of pay creates a new transaction, and if the first one actually went through, you will have multiple debits.

Do not send card details in support chats. Merchant support may ask for the order number, but never the full card number. This is a sign that you are not talking to support but to a scammer.
