Launching ads on Meta, Google, or TikTok is usually less about creative and more about payments. Each platform has its quirks, often learned through trial and error.
Meta Ads (Facebook, Instagram)
Meta is the most finicky when it comes to payments. Key points:
- BIN checks. New accounts or those with a history of blocks often get declines on common virtual BINs. For Meta, it's best to use a clean BIN, ideally from the same country as your Business Manager registration.
- Holds and pre-authorizations. Meta regularly performs pre-authorizations and may charge more than expected if you exceed your budget. Your card limit should be significantly higher than your daily budget (2-3 times).
- Payment methods. Direct card, PayPal, and in some countries bank transfer. No crypto.
- Blocks. Your account can be suspended for suspicious payment activity. Recovery requires verification, which can take days.
Google Ads
Google is noticeably more stable than Meta. Important points:
- Virtual cards usually work. Google does not mass-block BINs.
- Daily spending limit. Google may charge up to 2x your daily budget on active days. Keep this in mind when setting your card limit.
- Threshold billing. Initially, Google charges when you reach a threshold (e.g., $50, then $100). After a history of activity, it switches to monthly billing.
- Payment methods. Card, debit, bank transfer, and in some countries SEPA Direct Debit. No crypto.
TikTok Ads
TikTok is slightly easier than Meta but stricter than Google on KYC:
- Manual top-up vs Auto. You can work in prepaid mode (top up balance, spend) or with auto-debit. Manual is more reliable for control.
- Business documents required in some countries. Registering certain business manager accounts requires a legal entity document.
- Virtual cards are accepted. Keep limits in mind.
General Principles for Ad Payments
Separate card for each ad account. This limits risk: if one platform starts overcharging, you'll notice on that specific card, not your whole wallet.
Limit higher than planned budget. Don't cut it close. Platforms often take pre-authorizations, traffic spikes can increase daily spend, and currency conversions have spreads.
Regular monitoring. Check charges daily. Platforms sometimes suddenly deduct overdue amounts from past periods.
Backup payment method. If your primary card gets blocked (for any reason), you need a second option, otherwise your campaign stops until payment is restored, and traffic is lost.
