Developers renting compute power for AI tasks have a new payment option: the ScoutWyze Compute package on PyPI supports payment via USDC on Base through the x402 protocol, in addition to the traditional prepaid key model.
What it means in practice
Previously, accessing the GPU-placement ranking API required buying a prepaid key. Now you can pay directly in USDC on Base — an Ethereum L2 with low fees and high speed.
Base isn't the only network for USDC. Ethereum (ERC-20) and Tron (TRC-20) are also popular. The choice affects fees and speed:
- TRC-20 (Tron) — lowest fees (under $1), high speed, but less support in Western services.
- ERC-20 (Ethereum) — high fees (up to $5–20), slower, but maximum compatibility.
- Base (L2) — low fees (cents), fast transactions, growing ecosystem.
For developers paying for cloud compute, Base may be the sweet spot: cheap, fast, and no need to hold ETH on the mainnet.
Why it matters
ScoutWyze Compute is a wrapper for LangChain and Haystack that simplifies integration with the GPU ranking API. USDC payments on Base make the service accessible to those who work with crypto and want to avoid traditional banking.
The emergence of such tools shows how stablecoins are penetrating AI and cloud infrastructure — where speed and predictability of payments matter.
What's next
If you already use USDC, pay attention to the network: for small payments, TRC-20 or Base are cheaper; for large and compatible ones, ERC-20. VirtCardPay virtual cards let you pay for foreign services without being tied to a specific crypto network, which is handy when you need to top up quickly.
Not financial advice. Cryptocurrencies are volatile; do your own research.
