Last month we received the SpacemiT K3 Pico-ITX Chassis Kit based on the company's K3 16-core RISC-V SoC and started the review with unboxing, teardown, and first boot to Bianbu OS 4.0. The system features a 10Gbps Ethernet SFP+ cage, making it interesting for networking tasks.
What Works in Bianbu OS 4.0
The Bianbu 4.0 operating system (based on Debian) shows good compatibility with basic software. Out of the box, the following work:
- Chromium browser (with limitations on some websites)
- LibreOffice office suite
- VLC media player
- Development tools (GCC, Python)
The 10GbE network is detected correctly, with transfer speeds up to 9.4 Gbps in iperf3 tests.
Issues and Limitations
Not everything runs smoothly. Main issues:
- No hardware video acceleration (VA-API not supported)
- Problems with some USB devices (webcams, Wi-Fi adapters)
- Unstable sleep/hibernation
- Limited graphics support – only basic 2D mode
Practical Aspect for Virtual Card Users
While the SpacemiT K3 is not a payment terminal, it can be used as a home server for cryptocurrency wallets or lightweight financial applications. However, due to graphics limitations and lack of hardware video acceleration, do not expect comfortable streaming or heavy banking web interfaces.
Conclusion
