When all subscriptions are tied to a single card, your statement becomes a puzzle: what is PADDLE.NET 12 USD, which service sent STRIPE *XYZ. Spreading subscriptions across different virtual cards is a simple way to bring order.
When This Is Useful
For multiple AI services. ChatGPT, Anthropic, Cursor, Perplexity — each gets its own card. If you decide to cancel one, you block that specific card without confusing it with others.
For ad accounts. Meta Ads, Google Ads, TikTok Ads — each has a separate card. If one ad platform starts charging above the limit (and it happens), you will notice it faster.
For subscriptions with unpredictable amounts. Cloud storage with usage-based billing, API services with pay-as-you-go — on separate cards with limits.
For trial periods. A trial card with a flat trial amount. When the service switches to paid billing, it cannot charge more than the trial because the card limit is exhausted.
How to Issue
In the VirtCardPay dashboard — Cards — Issue Card. Each card gets its own number, expiry date, and CVV. The issuance cost is standard per your tariff (usually a small fixed amount).
A useful trick: give cards readable names in the dashboard. Instead of VC-285742 — Anthropic, Meta Ads, Hotel Lisbon. This way, the card list immediately shows what is where.
Limits
Set on each card:
- Total balance limit — the maximum amount that can be on the card.
- Per-transaction limit — the maximum that can be charged in a single transaction. Usually equal to the subscription amount.
- Monthly limit (if available) — the maximum per calendar month.
Ideal: card limit = next subscription amount + a small buffer (10-20% for price increases or currency conversion).
Reissuing or Closing
If the service where the card lives is compromised — block that specific card, not the others. The other subscriptions continue working without interruption.
When a subscription is no longer needed — instead of canceling through the service, you can simply close the card. The subscription will stop at the next billing cycle, and the service cannot hold you.
What to Avoid
Do not create cards endlessly. Each card costs $0.5-2 per month in support (depending on the tariff). It makes sense to issue cards for services that carry real risks: unpredictable amounts, attempts to retain a subscription, history of problems. For regular predictable subscriptions, one general card is enough.
