Airport Lounges: Priority Pass, DragonPass, and the Real Situation in 2026

Lounge access programs grew as an industry in the 2010s. Priority Pass, DragonPass, LoungeKey are the three main players. By 2026, the situation has noticeably changed: some popular lounges have left the programs, some have become guests admitted on a space-available basis, and subscription prices have increased.

Priority Pass

The oldest and largest program. 1500+ lounges in 700+ cities. Subscription prices:

• Standard - $99/year + $35 per visit.
• Standard Plus - $329/year, 10 free visits, then $35 each.
• Prestige - $469/year, unlimited visits for the cardholder.

Guests are typically $35 per person. Families quickly face large sums.

DragonPass

A younger Chinese competitor, 1300+ lounges. Similar model: Personal Pass $99/year + $25 per visit, or Unlimited for $299/year.

DragonPass's advantage is more lounges in Asia. If you frequently fly through Hong Kong, Singapore, or Chinese cities, it may be more advantageous than Priority Pass.

LoungeKey

More often available through premium bank cards (American Express Platinum, some Visa Infinite), not as a standalone subscription. Essentially an analog.

What Changed in 2024-2025

Lounge occupancy has increased. Especially popular lounges in large airports (Frankfurt, LAX, JFK) are often overcrowded - Priority Pass guests are either turned away or asked to wait in line.

Some popular lounges have left Priority Pass. For example, many SkyTeam lounges in Europe now only accept business class passengers and program members.

Separate premium lounges not in Priority Pass have emerged. Air France La Premiere, Lufthansa First Class Terminal - accessible only to certain passenger categories. Priority Pass does not work there.

What to Choose

Fly 5-10 times a year. Standard Plus or Standard with pay-per-visit. Typically pays off by the 5th or 6th visit.

20+ flights per year. Prestige or Unlimited. At such volumes, it pays off with a large margin.

Family. Often it's more cost-effective to get a credit card with included Priority Pass for the cardholder plus additional cards with the same benefit.

Alternatives

Bank card with lounge access. American Express Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, many premium cards from European banks include Priority Pass or similar. Effective price is lower than a standalone subscription.

Day pass from the lounge directly. $30-60 per visit at most Plaza Premium, Aspire, Escape Lounges. Pays off if you fly 1-2 times a year.

Alternatives to lounges. Pay-per-use spaces in new airports (Hala, Minute Suites), business-class cafes with charging, using regular jet bridges with priority boarding purchase - not a lounge, but solves some problems.

Payment with Virtual Card

Priority Pass and DragonPass accept virtual cards for subscription and day pass payments. The card limit must cover the payment amount.
